There is one day in January when a special historical figure is commemorated for his hard work to improve the country: Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Martin Luther King Jr. was an American activist who became the most popular leader and spokesperson during the Civil Rights Movement. His goal, like many others during the movement, was to help gain the racially oppressed African Americans freedom. King worked for racial equality in many events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the organization of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the letter from the Birmingham Jail. His most famous work, his “I Have a Dream” speech, showed this goal where he dreams of the country without segregation or racism. In 1964, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Historical figures such as King who worked hard to try and gain equality among all races left a lasting impact on the world as people began to be influenced by his works and take action themselves. His works have influenced many others to try and do the same to bring the same goal that he had in mind. In current times, a similar situation is occurring as the Black Lives Matter movement is also working hard to reach the same goal. King has been an inspiration for those who wished to make a change to take risks and speak their voice to the world. With the rise of new figures who work hard for racial equality, people may begin to take his place in the modern world and hope to achieve his dream of living in a world without racism.
Martin Luther Luther King Jr. has done great work in working the country closer to the goal of ending racism. Hopefully in the future, figures like King can emerge to spread more about racial equality as they are needed in times such as now, not just to have more holidays, but for the improvement of the country.
